The Briefest of Moments

New friends gathered there
Shaking hands
Making plans
For the very first time

Old friends were huddled
Catching up
Making up
For some long lost time --

Everyone was waiting
To see her
To see him
(and/to) Bear witness in this house

Celebrate a love
overdue
deep and true
And hear their vows

And then she entered
Flowing hair
Halcyon eyes
With brilliant beaming smile

Adorned in regal colors
Gracefully
Floating by
Capturing my mind for a while

In this briefest moment
Friends were forgotten
There was nothing to make up
And no celebration
There was just this

The briefest of moments
Nothing more
Than a fleeting kiss

And after that moment
I felt guilty
And looked away
For she was not the bride.
